There is a lot of information online about search engine optimization, and it can be quite daunting to try and understand it. Or, you can change a few factors to your website, which can help to improve your search engine rankings. One of the first things you should take into consideration is the title of your web page, and what it says in your web browser.

At the top of your web browser, you will see the title bar. Go to your website home page and look at what the browser says. The words featured in the title bar of your browser should have the keywords or phrases of your company name, to increase search engine rankings.

You also need to see what your other internal pages show on the title bar. For each individual web page, the title bar must contain the specific keyword and phrases that each individual page is about. However, avoid very long strings of keywords, keeping them to six words or less. Avoid repeating keywords more than once in the title bars, and make sure that identical words are not next to each other.

The next variable your should take into consideration is the quality, and the originality of the content on your web site. Try to include your main keywords phrases in the content, such as keywords that potential customers would search for if they were to find your website. You should carefully chose your words for each page, and aim to have around 100 – 250. Having good ranking in search engines is to some degree, selected on the text of each page. The search engines must be able to read the text in HTML format, and not graphics.

To find out if your text is in HTML format, take your cursor and try to highlight a word or two. If you are able to do this, the text is HTML. If the text will not become highlighted, it is more than likely in graphic form. If you can not highlight the text, contact your webmaster to change the text to a HTML format in order to achieve better search engine rankings.

You then want to have a look at your meta tags. Many people believe that meta tags are the key to high search engine rankings, but in reality, they only have a limited effect. Although, it’s worth adding them in the event that a search engine will use meta tags in their ranking formula.

Go to the “view” tab on your web browser and select “source” to see if the meta tags are set up properly. A new window will open. If you have meta tags, you will see them located at the top of the window. You should see meta name=”keywords” content=, if you have meta tags. If you do not have this code, contact your webmaster and have them put it into your website.

The last thing is link popularity. This is the most important part of search engine rankings. This is the quality and quantity of websites that link to your website. This increases search engine rankings, and helps to drive quality traffic to your website.

A successful internet marketing campaign should consist of search engine optimization. The higher you rank in the search engines, the more exposure you have in your market, which means more sales.
