1. Select Your Candle Fragrance]

Fragrance oil is available in most craft shops. You can also shop for it online. Select a good quality fragrance oil instead of going whth a cheap water or alcohol based fragrances. Your wax mix will be oil based, so your fragrance should also be oil based. Why? Oil and water do not mix so a water based perfume will not mix properly with the oil based wax.

2. Choose Your Wax

The basics of {making scented candles} are more or less the same as for ordinary wax candles. Begin by choosing your wax type. Available in the market is a versatile range of wax starting with the naturals, beeswax, palm & soy, and progressing to paraffin or gel wax. It is important that you decide on the fragrance intensity for your candles before picking the kind of wax. For example, lower density wax holds less fragrance than wax of a higher density.

3. The Art of Making Aromatic Candles

Now that we’ve covered wax selection, let’s talk about the process of creating scented candles.

The first job is to melt the wax. I suggest using a double boiler. That means put the wax in a small pot. Now place that container into a slightly larger pot partially filled with water. Now heat the H2O. Use a thermometer to avoid burning your wax. The temperature should be maintained at 170-180 degrees Fahrenheit.

When the wax is melted, put a wick in the mold & take the wax from the heat source. Next add your fragrance oil. 1 ounce fragrance oil to 1 pound wax will create a fragrance of 6%. Appreciate that larger portions of fragrance oil means the candle to burn out sooner.

Next pour the melted wax/fragrance mixture into it’s mold. The only job left is to let the whole thing cool before removing your candle from it’s mold.

Congratulations! You’re finished!

4. Experiment as You Go

You will develop expertise in all aspects of the candle craft when you start experimenting. By using different fragrances and colors, you will perfect the candle making technique and thoroughly enjoy the process.

It’s a great feeling to award your friends with a {scented candle that is homemade} knowing that they will find the fragrant essences both relaxing and invigorating.
