Many people who near retirement age don’t look forward to this part of their life at all. They fear retiring for various reasons. Very often they don’t have enough money to retire on and they don’t know where to get the extra money from. Many people also fear the boredom of retirement. Getting up in the morning and not having anything to do can take the luster out of life.
There is something you can do to solve both the financial problems and the fulfillment problems that retirement could bring. Start writing a blog. When you reach retirement age you have a lifetime of experience behind you. Work experience. Experience in interacting with other people. Perhaps you have traveled a lot. Many people would love to hear from you and share their own experiences with you.
You will also be able to make money blogging. Sign up for a Google Adsense account and display the ads next to you your blogs. Whenever someone should click on one of the Google ads, you will get a percentage of the advertising income from this. You can also sign up for affiliate programs, like Amazon and display the ads on your blog pages. If one of your visitors buys something from Amazon, they will pay you a commission.
This is a good way to earn money to supplement your retiring income. If you can write very well and amuse or entertain a lot of people, it could eventually develop into a full-time job providing a full-time income – if that is what you want.
To write a blog is more than just about the financial rewards though. It will suddenly give you a reason to get up in the morning – to see what comments people have made on yesterday’s blog that you wrote. Others will share their own experiences with you. You will make many new online friends. Friends who might be in a foreign country, but they share your outlook on life. Or they might be going through a similar experience as you, so they know what you are talking about. Some of them will become life-long friends.
Another positive aspect of blogging is that this is something that you can do until you are very old. It is in fact a great way of earning money and keeping yourself busy when you are old. There are many bloggers who are in their seventies and eighties. It’s a great way to make new friends and to stay in touch with old friends.
You don’t need to be physically fit to do this. You could be in a wheelchair. Even if you can no longer use your fingers to type, you can nowadays use voice recognition software to let the computer type your blog entries for you. Don’t let your voice become silent before long before it’s time – there is another way.
